I did a quick search for children’s books about nannies and the families they help, and there just wasn’t much on the market. Sure, there’s the classic, Mary Poppins, but aside from Julie Andrews flying with her umbrella, all the books we found cast the job in a somewhat unfavorable light. Florence Ann wanted to create a book that respected the bond between children and their parents, while showcasing the important role a nanny plays in a child’s development. Nanny and Me is a beautifully written story - with amazing illustrations - for parents to use to explain the role of this “new person” entering their family’s world. I felt this represented an opportunity.
After working with our editorial team to get the script just right, we turned our attention to finding an artist that could bring Florence Ann’s story to life. After several test sketches and test illustrations, we settled on Sydni Kruger, and with Florence Ann’s input and approval throughout the production process, we created a fabulous children's book.
Next, it was onto the promotion and distribution phase. The response we’ve gotten to Nanny and Me has been overwhelming.
Whether it’s nannies, parents, or especially children, our intended audience has enjoyed this book. It can be a big transition to bring in a nanny and one that children (and even adults) can have a hard time with, but Florence Ann’s book puts both at ease.
This is only the beginning for this former Nanny.
